Editorial Policy

Who writes this, what we are allowed to claim, and how mistakes get fixed.

Who writes it

Every page on Sprue & Brush is written under one byline: Brijon M., Owner of MadGrey LLC. There is no anonymous content team and no rotating cast of unnamed contributors. The bio is on the about page and it is the complete account — see the next section for why that matters.

What we are allowed to claim

This is the rule that governs the whole site, and it is deliberately restrictive:

  • No invented credentials. No qualifications, certifications, industry tenure, awards, commission-painting history or follower counts are claimed anywhere, because none have been established. A leaner honest bio beats an impressive invented one.
  • No invented testing. We do not say we tested, trialed, measured or long-term-used a product unless that is true, and we do not run a test lab — see the review policy.
  • No invented reviews or testimonials. There are no reader testimonials, customer quotes or star-rating aggregates on this site. If you see a quote here, it is cited to its source.
  • No invented prices, ratings or review counts. Prices come only from the live price layer; where there is no verified figure, the page says so.
  • No manufactured urgency. No countdowns, no “only 3 left”, no invented deals or price-drop predictions.

Sources and citation

Pages that make factual claims about products list their sources at the bottom, with the month we last checked each one resolved. Where a claim rests on something outside the hobby — ventilation guidance, color rendering metrics — we cite the primary authority rather than another hobby site repeating it.

Links to manufacturer specification pages and standards bodies are reference links and earn us nothing. Commercial links are marked separately and disclosed on every page that carries them.

How pages are built

  • One question per page. A page exists because someone asks that question, not because a keyword tool produced a phrase.
  • The answer comes first. Every page opens with a short, direct answer before the reasoning, so a reader who wants only the conclusion can take it and leave.
  • Drawbacks are mandatory. Every recommendation names what is wrong with the product. A pick with no downsides has not been examined.
  • The cheaper option gets named where it is genuinely good enough, including when that costs us commission.
  • No padding. Pages are as long as the answer needs and no longer. A 600-word answer does not get stretched to 2,000 for search engines.

Where AI is and is not used

Being straightforward about this, since it is a fair question for any site at this scale: drafting, structuring and editing on this site are AI-assisted. What is not AI-generated is the substance — product selection, criteria, sources and the claims permitted above are set by the author and checked against the cited specifications.

No page is published that asserts a fact nobody verified, and the rules in the “claims” section exist specifically because plausible-sounding invention is the characteristic failure of AI-assisted writing. If you find something on this site that reads confidently and is wrong, that is a defect and we want to hear about it.

Corrections

Factual corrections are made in place, and the page’s “last updated” date changes with them. Where a correction changes a recommendation rather than a detail, the page says what changed and why.

Report anything wrong to contact@sprueandbrush.com or through the contact form. Include the page and the specific claim — that is the mail we act on fastest.

  • Paid placements, sponsored posts and paid links.
  • Guest articles and contributed content.
