How images on this site are sourced

Sprue & Brush does not own a photography studio, and we do not pretend otherwise. The photographs here are openly licensed images sourced through Openverse and Wikimedia Commons, used under Creative Commons licenses or as public-domain works. Each one is credited below with its photographer, the original source page and the specific license.

Two rules govern where these images are allowed to appear. They are used as illustrative and ambient imagery — a painted model beside a guide about painting models. They are never presented as our own work, our own workspace, or evidence that we tested a product. A photograph of someone else’s painted miniature illustrating an article is fair use of an openly licensed image; the same photograph captioned as “our test model” would be a lie, and that is a line this site does not cross.

Credits

84 images, listed by file path. Where a license requires share-alike or attribution terms, the license link is the authoritative statement of those terms.

Product images

Product photographs are a separate matter. Where a live retailer data connection is in place, product images are served from the retailer’s own content delivery network under the terms of their affiliate program, and appear only alongside a link to that product at that retailer. Where no such connection exists — which is currently the case on this site — openly licensed illustrative photography is used instead and is credited in the table above.

No product photograph on this site is presented as having been taken by us.
